This beautifully spalted beech bowl retains the natural edge of the log it was cut from.
The spectacular markings are caused by fungus invasion, which was what killed the tree.
We have planted several beech trees in our own magical space to replace this magnificent old specimen.
This is a wonderful decorative or votive bowl - celebrate the beauty and range of colours that mother earth gives in death as in life.

THIS SHALLOW ELM VOTIVE OR MIXING BOWL (NOW SOLD - we will make similar for you) CAME FROM A TREE AFFLICTED WITH DUTCH ELM DISEASE, WHICH, THOUGH IT KILLS THE TREE, LEAVES THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLACK STAINS OR MARKINGS IN THE WOOD WHICH ONLY COME TO LIGHT ON THE LATHE - WHICH I TAKE AS PART OF THE MAGIC OF WORKING WITH IT.
WE ARE PARTAKING IN A PROGRAM OF REPLANTING IN AN ATTEMPT TO PUT THESE NOBLE TREES BACK ON THE LANDSCAPE. WE'LL LET YOU KNOW HOW SUCCESSFUL WE WERE IN ABOUT 400 YEARS!
